Bits and Pieces

Well, I have decided to hijack Berdian's or rather our blog:-).  It has been ages since we posted anything, well I will try from now on to blog short articles with little bits and pieces.  Here goes my bits and pieces!

We are doing well as a family, we are still serving through Christ's Hope Namibia.  The challenges remain, but through it all God is good!  Both Berdian and I love working with people both the young and old or should I say the "more mature".  Berdian has signed up to teach life skills classes at a local High School, I will probably help now and then.  He enjoys spending time with the teenagers.  I hope to also be directly involved in ministry this year, with specific focus on evangelism and discipleship.

Dante still loves school, he is crazy about reading, which truly blesses our hearts.  He saw a documentary on World War I & II, since then this has become his interest for now.  So, based on this war theme we held his 9th birthday party at a paintball place.  He had loads of fun! Well, I know some of you may not agree with us on this one, and I want to apologise for that.

About two weeks after his party he asked me the following:  When he gets to heaven will God show him parts of his life here on earth, I said yes and asked him what would he like to see again?  He answered his paintball party!  We are glad that he had so much fun.  Sometimes we get so caught up in other things, that we do not have time to make birthdays special!

Jamie-Nicole is at a new school.  She had some challenges at her previous school, so we moved her to a new school.  She enjoys school and is happy.  As your typical strong willed child, she tries our patience, but it feels like the older she gets, the easier it becomes?  Or is it just that we are starting to know how to manage her better?  With this I am not saying that we have it all right, but we certainly try.  We sincerely pray that we will not break her spirit or harm her in any way, but we also know that we need to have firm boundaries and say no, perhaps we sometimes say no too quickly!  Well, parenting is probably one the most challenging callings in life.

Last December, we had a good special at our local gym and decided to sign up.  Our hospital medical aid plan offers us a rebate on the gym fees, so the more you gym, the less you pay!  As you can imagine, it certainly motivates us.  The nice thing about it all, is that the gym is very child friendly, Dante joins for free, and we pay a small fee for them to look after Jamie-Nicole.  Both the children loves to go to the gym.  So we are trying to keep healthy. You always hear that exercise is good for when you feel depressed.  Well, I certainly have experienced this first hand.  After a good work out at the gym, my mood is certainly altered!  Berdian loves exercise, so for him it is a real treat, I think I am starting to like it as well.

Well, this is all for now!  I just love the saying: "Life's not fair, but God is good!"  I know so many people facing various challenges and all I know for certain is that God is good and in control, even when life's challenges wears you down.

Bye for now, and I hope to become a regular blogger!
