Dutch Stroopwafels in Namibia

Well, we as a family are just crazy about Dutch Stroopwafels.  Whenever Berdian visits the Netherlands he brings at least half a dozen packets with.  Berdian started to dream about making our own stroop wafels in Namibia.

Well, good friends of ours brought a stroopwafel pan last July, but unfortunately it got stolen before they could give it us.  However, Berdian continued to pursue the possibility of a stroopwafel iron. Last year in October with the help of a friend he acquired one.  We then started to try out recipes and finally with the help and assistance of friends we have a good recipe for the syrup and the waffle.  We made our first "production" just before Christmas, but the syrup was not good enough.  In January, we tried again and finally we produced a Namibian Stroop waffle!  We are truly grateful to all our friends and the people God brought on our way to help us, the acquisition of the iron, the recipes and just general tips with the method of preparing, seeing that I (Juliet) does not have a natural talent for the things happening in a kitchen.

Berdian then started to promote the product and almost everyone who tried it was crazy about it.  I have heard one person calling it "the finest cookie ever designed by man".

Seeing that personal support has been quite a challenge the past few years, we hope to generate a substantial amount to supplement our monthly income.  So if you want to have a taste of a Dutch Stroopwafel made in Namibia, please contact us and we will be happy to get one to you.

We also go to the Bio-Markt in Uhland street, Klein Wndhoek every Saturday and have a stall there.  Apart from our own product it is a nice place to visit, look at other "green" product stalls and have a coffee.  We can take our children with which of course is a huge blessing!  Dante especially likes the outing and seems to take a keen interest in the business side of things.

Do pray with us as we are treading unknown territory.  May God lead us and may we clearly hear His voice leading us forward.

  1. Am very delighted to hear about the break-through of the Stroopwafel-project. They are just delicious and I hope that every Namibian will get a chance to taste them.
Am praying for success of this project but also that God will touch people to contribute towards your personal support on a regular basis.
    Blessings, Julia
